About 80 percent of adults’ experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes. It is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed workdays. Most low back pain is acute or short term and lasts a few days to a few weeks. In 2010, Low Back Pain jumped to third place, with only Ischemic Heart Disease and COPD ranking higher in a study that ranked the most burdensome conditions in the U.S. in terms of poor health from disease. PBM is rarely a stand-alone in the management of lower back pain. A multifaceted approach is often yields the best outcomes. Combining active and passive care with physical medicine and PBM are proving to be successful treatment strategies.
